On January 1, 2010, Mavigex kicked-off the SkyMedia project, funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Program (FP7).
Mavigex acts as project coordinator for a consortium made up of 8 partners (Mavigex, Nimbus, Tekever, Vitec MM, Thales Communications, Velti, FogScreen) from 6 European Countries (Italy, Portugal, France, Hungary, Greece, Finland).
The SkyMedia project will explore, design, and demonstrate a novel multimedia end-to-end architecture that can provide unique immersive media experiences to audiences during live events. Amongst the key technologies that will be synergically combined there are interactive walk-through mid-air screens and interactive user applications for mobile terminals with 2D/3D displays. UAV platforms will be used to provide access to the scene in a silent, convenient, and safe fashion, capturing HD and 3D video and images from the sky. Wireless Sensors will complete the system architecture to form an Augmentation Network deployed on ground to enrich the multimedia content with useful and interesting side-information.
The project will culminate in a immersive media experience demonstration during a public live event, to prove the potential and test the users reaction to the ensemble of these exciting technologies.
